The Government of Delhi has ordered on Sunday (Oct 4) to extend the school closure in the nation’s capital by other 27 days till October 31, 2020. The decision came in response of the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid rise in infected cases in the country.
Earlier, the Government of Delhi had ordered to extend the school closure till October 5. In previous orders, the government also urged all schools to start online classes at their own level, although the center allowed students in classes 9 to 12 to attend school voluntarily from September 21.
But now, all schools will remain closed till end of the month, after the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Manish Sisodia, who also holds the portfolios of Education, officially announced on social media.
He wrote on twitter, “All schools in Delhi will now remain shut till October 31 due to COVID-19. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that as a parent, he understands the seriousness of the situation. At this time, it will not be appropriate to take any risk regarding the health of Children.”
Since the Central Government announced the closure of nationwide classrooms on March 16, all schools and universities have been closed as part of measures to control the spread of the COVID-19.
In addition to above, the Ministry of Education has also issued guidelines on Saturday (Oct 4) for reopening of schools under the 5th phase of Unlock. According to the new guidelines, colleges, schools and other educational institutions can also be reopened outside the containment zones after October 15. However, the decision on whether to reopen educational institutions is still at the discretion of each state and union territory.
The states and union territories will need to prepare their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools based on the center’s Unlock 5 guidelines and the actual situation of their respective units.
