The construction of Katra (Jammu & Kashmir) – Delhi express road corridor has started. One of its kind, the mega project will be ready by 2023, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh confirmed on Wednesday (August 12).
When the express road corridor will put into operation by authorities, the travel time will be reduced to around 6.5 hours from Katra to Delhi and around 6 hours from Jammu to Delhi.
According to Dr Jitendra Singh, once this express road corridor is operational, people will prefer to travel to Delhi by road rather than by train or plane. He further informed that the land acquisition process is nearing completion and started field work, after M/s Feedback Consultants Ltd. completed the survey.
“The hallmark of this road corridor is that it will connect the holy cities of Katra and Amritsar, and at the same time offer connectivity for some other major important religious shrines between the two destinations,” he added.
The project is estimated to cost more than INR 35,000 crore and will pass through Jammu and Kathua in Jammu & Kashmir, as well as Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Ludhiana in Punjab.
Scheduled to be completed within a timeline of three years, the road corridor will prove to be a breakthrough revolution in promoting industrial and investment development throughout the region, as it will also pave the way for the development of economic hubs in cities such as Kathua and Jammu.
Dr Jitendra Singh, representing Katra Vaishno Devi Lok Sabha seat, has been pursuing this project since 2015. He had first announced it around 3 years ago during an event at Katra that he had submitted a proposal for this project. The proposal had been accepted by Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
In addition to above, Dr Jitendra Singh also said that the national highway between Pathankot and Jammu is also being widened simultaneously and will be upgraded from 4-lane to 6-lane. This up-gradation will also prove to be a great boon for the commuters between Jammu, Kathua and Pathankot.
