Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) after completing the land acquisition has now taken possession of over 160 acres of land at Aitiana Village which is about 30 Kms from the Ludhiana city for construction of the new Civil International Airport Terminal at Halwara.
Ludhiana deputy commissioner Mr. Pradeep Agrawal and ACA – GLADA Mr. Bhupinder Singh said that the process of purchasing the land from farmers has been completed and it was one of the major tasks in establishment of international civil terminal at the airport in Ludhiana. The farmers had been paid a compensation of about Rs. 20 Lakhs per acre and each eligible family would also be paid by Rs. 5.5 Lakhs towards rehabilitation and resettlement.
The Government of Punjab and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had also formed a joint venture for the construction of new Civil and Cargo International Air Terminal at village Aitiana in Tehsil Raikot at Indian Air Force (IAF) Station Halwara in Ludhiana.
The execution of the project would be done through a Joint Venture Company (JVC) with the majority of 51 per cent shares of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and 49 per cent shares of the Government of Punjab through GLADA.
Mr. Agrawal said, “The Punjab Government is making efforts to ensure that this airport becomes operational in next two and a half years. In the first phase of the project, it will include development of a new international civil terminal on 135.54 acres for full-fledged operations up to Code-4C type aircraft.”
