Canada allows International Students to enter into the country

Now, international students studying in Canadian schools, colleges and universities are allowed to enter into the country to continue their studies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Government of Canada has amended some restrictions on travel so that designated learning institutions (DLIs) with an approved COVID-19 preparation plan can begin accepting their international scholars as of October 23.

The plan must have been approved by the provincial or territorial government where the schools, colleges and universities are located. The government stated that the plan must also formulate agreements to protect the health of students, provided that the students are suspected or infected with the coronavirus at the learning institutions.

The preparation plans must specify how the management of the schools, colleges and universities communicate health and travel information to international students before they arrive in Canada. Moreover, they also required to specify that how they can help or assist students in isolating themselves and other necessities including food, medication and health insurance.

The Government of Canada said while announcing, “The provincial and territorial partners indicated they would like to see a process that allows international students to begin travelling to Canada again, as long as it is done safely and respects health requirements. Taking a cautious approach, the federal, provincial and territorial governments have worked together in developing that process.”

A list of approved learning institutions for readiness plans and other useful information for international students can be found on the official website (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship.html) of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. After accepting other plans, this list will be updated regularly. Currently, only primary and secondary DLIs and post-secondary DLIs are listed.

The government said that the revised travel restrictions apply to all international students, regardless of their country of origin or the time they received a Canadian study permit. The amendment also believes that this reason for travel to be non-optional and non-discretionary.

Under Canada’s Quarantine Act, the emergency orders restricted certain foreign citizens from travelling to Canada for non-essential reasons such as entertainment, recreation and tourism.

In order to travel to Canada, international students must have all the necessary documents required to enter into the country, must not have any symptoms of the virus and their school must be on the list of institutions that have approved a COVID-19 preparation plans. Like all travelers, international students and their family members must be isolated for 14 days upon arrival in Canada.
