As we all know, The Government of India has suspended domestic and international passenger flight operations from midnight on March 24 for next 21 days as our Prime Minister has imposed the nation-wide 21 days lockdown to control the increasing cases of COVID-19 in India. However, cargo flights, medical evacuation flights, offshore helicopter operations and flights permitted on special ground by the aviation regulator DGCA were allowed to operate during this lockdown. But now, the Government is likely to allow flight operations for travelers after this lockdown.
Officials said on April 5, 2020, “The Government of India is likely to allow domestic and international flight operations in India in a stumble manner after the 21 days nation-wide lockdown period which is expected to end on April 14. All major airlines such as: Vistara (UK), Indigo (6E), Spicejet (SG), Go Air (G8) and Air Asia (I5) except Air India (AI) are taking domestic bookings for travel dates after April 14 whereas Air India is taking bookings for travel dates after April 30 only”.
“As the virus is still spreading in India, in case the lockdown gets extended, then the same process of cancellation has to be followed, and if the lockdown is not extended, then the bookings will be honoured”, said the secretary.
Many airlines have announced either a lead off or pay cut of their employees.
As earnings have fallen, Indigo (6E) has decided a deduction of allowances up to 25 per cent of their senior employees and Vistara (UK) has announced a compulsory leave without pay of up to three days for its senior employees in March.
