Coronavirus: Trudeau Objects US plans to Deploy Troops to Canada Border

As the, White House officials discuss the possible deployment of troops to the Canadian border, Justin Trudeau and other Canadian ministers have made it clear that  they don’t support any such plans.

During his press address, Mr Trudeau said “Canada and the US have the longest unmilitarised border in the world, and it is very much in both of our interests for it to remain that way.

US is justifying it’s move to protect its borders during the coronavirus pandemic and fears that people carrying the virus may enter the country illegally. As per the sources, about a thousand troops will be stationed few miles from the border monitoring illegal border crossings through remote sensors.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland had said that “Canada is strongly opposed to this US proposal and we’ve made that very clear to our US counterparts.”

The border between the US and Canada stretches 8,891 kilometres and was earlier closed to all but essential traffic since midnight on 21 March as a preventive measure fearing pandemic spread.
